life lately (according to instagram)

(L: lots of driving, C: gala night, R: fancy date with the hubs)
(L: hubs helped out, C: more driving, R: tired gallery girls)
Our gallery snagged a last minute booth at BIFAS,
so we had a whirlwind weekend in Boston...

(L: madlibs with grammy, R: thanksgiving family feast)
(L: hometown memories, R: where momma grew up)
(driving pictures...Maine is beautiful!)
We went to Maine to celebrate
Thanksgiving with my family...

(house hunting pictures)
(L: recent work project, R: my first chicken pot pie!)
And house hunting, work, and life continue!

maine love :)

Wouldn't it be fun to show
a little love for your home state
with one of these sweet necklaces?

last saturday...

Last weekend we enjoyed a perfect day
on the Maine coast with my folks.  We visited
some of my favorite places, soaked up plenty
of sunshine, and devoured lots of good food!

We walked the entire length of the breakwater
in Rockland, which has been a summer tradition
for my family for as long as I can remember...

 ...then visited the always gorgeous
Children's Chapel, another family favorite!

It is the most peaceful little retreat,
with stunning plants & trees everywhere.

Thanks, parentals, for treating us
 to such a wonderful weekend.
Let's do it again soon!

hey, maine.

We're celebrating the long weekend
with a trip to Maine, which will be
 a nice little get-away.

We're planning to spend lots of time
relaxing with my folks and are
contemplating an inaugural trip to
the coast as a little welcome to
summer.  I'm excited!

What are your plans?
I hope you enjoy the weekend!

morning joy

These are the days when I don't mind having a
different work schedule...one that allows me to
linger on the couch and take joy in the little
pleasures of a perfect spring morning.

Lately our apartment has been flooded with
bright morning sunshine and what sounds like the
noisy banter of every bird in the neighborhood.
It's impossible to be anything but cheerful
listening to their chirps & trills!

Even though there is still a bit of crispness
to the fresh morning air, I can't resist letting it in.
I've been throwing every window and door open,
then cozying up in a soft alpaca blanket and
drinking giant mugs of steaming coffee to
keep from getting goosebumps.

This morning I deviated from my usual blog
reads, and slowly poured through the new issue
of  Maine Magazine. (gorgeous, as usual.)
And as I unfolded myself from the couch to
refill my coffee and make toast, I realized again
just how good my little morning time is!

happy things

Because it's Friday and the sun is shining,
a happy list seems appropriate...

1. Apple Streusel French Toast.
Oh my lands, this stuff was good!
Thank you, Cracker Barrel for clogging
my arteries & making my morning.

2. New Friendships.
I've been enjoying getting to know some
pretty fabulous ladies over these last few
months.  New friends are the best!

3.  Dark Nails.
I'm loving dramatic dark tones for
fall nails...right now, a luscious purple.

4. Maine + Family = Happiness.
We're heading home to visit my family
for the weekend, which is always lovely.
I love relaxing and catching up on all
the good stuff happening at home!

homeward bound

We're heading home today
for a weekend with these lovelies.
I'm looking forward to some
family time and the rare chance to
see some of our favorite Maine
peoples!  Now to just get through
this nutty work day...

Happy weekend, my friends.

frosty

This is what our drive back from
Maine looked like last week.
The frosty, muted colors were so
striking that even in my half awake
state I knew I should snap a
few pictures.  I'm not always the
biggest fan of the cold and snow,
but I am happy to recognize
just how beautiful it is!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm off to see the parentals for
the annual giant family Thanksgiving,
and this year get to take along
my handsome man!

I'm so excited for a few family
days and for a mini break!

swoon.

While enjoying a cup of coffee this morning
and perusing this fabulous magazine,
I read about a portland hip hop girl
who just happens to sell vintage clothes.

I immediately went to check out
her etsy shop and fell in love with this
dress
about two seconds later.

(Sadly, it's not my size, so someone
else had better snatch it up quickly)

Pretty gorgeous, huh?

happy friday!

This is another one of the animal photos that I've been sitting on for a while and can't seem to come up with a reason to post. So I figured that on this day when I'm at home with the family, still digesting all that turkey & pie, I would show off his sweet face. Just because I can.

Today Sister and I plan to go take artsy photos up at our old family property for her thesis project, and she's asked me to be her model. While that's weird and I feel completely unqualified, I'm all about it...so I'll report later how my first modeling experiment goes!

Hope your Friday is filled with lots of leftovers and joy!

homeward bound

I feel like I just did a post like this, so please bear with me...

Today I'm off to Maine for another family funeral. My Grampy went home to be with Jesus last Saturday, just 3 days shy of the 6 month anniversary of Grammy's death. It was completely unexpected and shocking, and yet at the same time I think all of us understand it too.

I'm so conflicted about how I feel this week, which is why I haven't posted anything on here. (Or probably answered you very sucintly if you have expressed sympathy and asked how I'm doing...)

Part of me is sad and grieving - both for Grampy and Grammy. I can't believe that 6 months ago I had four grandparents...and now I have two. I feel as though so many of my memories of family are attached to these two people: I grew up next door to the farm (lots of cooking in the kitchen with Grammy and time in the barn and on the tractors with Grampy!), went on numerous fun trips with them as a kid (I'm a historic site expert!), and spent countless weekends camping all along the coast of Maine with them (hiking, swimming, making campfires, picking wild blueberries!).

Another part of me is glad for Grampy - the man was married for over 50 years, and to be honest, he just wasn't happy here without his love. Plus, I know that he's in heaven, not only with Grammy, but seeing his Savior face to face and experiencing the most amazing worship of his life. How can I be sad for this? I'm practically jealous for this!

So off I go. Thanks to all of my friends here who have been wonderful with hugs and abundant love this week - I love and appreciate each one of you.

these are my people

This is where I come from

We're giving this life everything we've got and then some

It ain't always pretty

But it's real

It's the way we were made

Wouldn't have it any other way

These are my people.
