diy polaroid magnets

Right after moving into our cute apartment,

I made a whole bunch of these sweet little 

magnets to decorate our blank fridge.  

Since everyone who walks through my kitchen 

stops to look at them, I figured I should post 

about them!  (Plus - they still make me smile 

every time I open the fridge...aka all the time.)

I was initially inspired by a photo on pinterest, 

loosely followed these directions here, 

but did plenty of improvising along the way...

...like skipping the download and heading over 

to picnik to stick my photos into their free

polaroid frame.  (Plus free editing, yippie!)

...or gluing my photos to white foam-core

scraps so that I wouldn't have to color

the edges.  (total laziness)

I'd love to know if you've made any 

for your fridge!  (Or as cute little stocking

stuffers perhaps??)  How did you cheat

to make it easier / cheaper?  :)

We spent our weekend away in the 

oh so fabulous town of Newport, RI.  

 It was great fun to be cute little tourists 

and explore the glorious "summer cottages" 

of the Vanderbilts and their pals from back 

in the day.  If you've never seen them, it's 

definitely worth the trip!

 

We took loads of photos (with our

Polaroid baby of course)...so here

 After working on it all weekend,

we finally ordered our wedding photo

album this morning, and now all

either of us can think about it getting

it in the mail to ooooh and aahhh over!

I'm loving this summery, vintage photo.

 We got our wedding pictures back a couple

of weeks ago, and while I haven't had time to

properly pay attention to them (make fancy 

albums or any of that fun stuff), I do periodically 

just scroll through them so I can ooh and aah 

over how fabulous our photographer made us look.

 (That's not too vain, right?)

I keep coming back to this image, and just can't seem

to get enough of it.  Maybe it's because I adored my 

shoes so much (which would be legit since they

were so stinkin' fabulous), but I think it probably has

more to do with how much I loved grasping 

my handsome man's hand during our ceremony.  

Being physically connected was probably the 

thing that kept me the most calm during those 

moments when what we were doing felt most solemn 

& serious. And I imagine it will be one of the the 

things that keeps me calm for years to come.

Sister is making us look sharp

in these fun engagement pictures!

 

Every time she emails us that more

are up, I get ridiculously excited and 

smiley.  It's quite silly, but totally fun.

We had so much fun doing pictures

with sister this past weekend!

After about 450 pictures and lots of

laughing, now the editing begins.

I am getting so excited to see them all, 

especially after she sent us a few 

this morning.  Yay for love and fun

the handsome man and I are doing

an engagement photo shoot with my

fabulous sister tomorrow...and I 

am so excited!  It will be great fun 

to play outside and hang with two 

of my favorite people!

I can not resist the sweet face of a cow.

It's true - I'm completely powerless when I see pictures like this one. (Come on, look at those wispy eyelashes! No beast that large should have such delicate eyelashes!!)

So yesterday when I saw this great series of photos (below), I immediately saved them onto my computer, thinking that I would use them someday.

Well, someday is today, because I couldn't wait to look at them again.

Recently, I spent a typical 10 minute drive across the city taking photos of the places I drive by all the time. (Safety disclaimer - Twin was driving so this was completely safe!)

That night, I was struck by how beautiful and different everything looked in the muggy, heavy darkness. The scenes I see everyday looked completely foreign when captured in a camera and viewed as separate little vignettes, rather than one coherent view.




While not claiming that any of these photos are great (or even really all that good) I want to share these are a way of challenging you to look for the beauty all around you. There are beautiful, lovely things all around us, but sometimes we miss them because they're part of the daily routine.

So look around - be deliberate about seeking out the beauty around you. And you might be surprised at what you find.
