rainy day wishes

Today is one of those cloudy, 

cool fall days that makes me want 

to putter around the kitchen.

I'd like to put on a comfy sweater,

turn on some mellow worship music, 

and try my hand at these recipes:

 Tomato Tortellini Soup

Crusty Bread in a Dutch Oven

  Triple Layer Strawberry Cake

And as long as you don't mind 

my crappy looking sweater,

you're invited to come help me

eat this imaginary feast.  :)

stormy sunday

 It was a bit of a wet weekend around these 

parts as the not-so-ladylike Irene blew through 

New England.  Our little neighborhood fared

very well with very minor damage and no real

flooding to speak of, so the hubs and I enjoyed

a quiet, cozy day inside.  We spent lots of time

in the kitchen together making yummy things,

but the whoopie pies were by far the best!

 

Making them brought back many happy

memories of Saturday baking with Grammy,

which was neat.  Isn't it funny how tastes

and smells hold so much memory?

Hope your weekend was safe & dry!

Something about this chilly, festive time of year 

makes me want to take over a large,

wonderful kitchen  (only because ours is 

tiny & not quite as beautiful as this!)  

so I can cook / bake up a storm.

Plus I keep finding daily inspiration 

( recipes that make you drool just

imaging how good they must taste!)

These longer evenings make me yearn for slightly warmer temperatures so that more dinners could be grilled and enjoyed in the back yard.

(Twin and I have started grilling again this week, and it's just amazing to me how much better food tastes when cooked outside.)

Our yard is tiny and not overly glamorous, but the combination of having a quiet spot with loads of candles and twinkle lights makes it cozy and perfect for escaping the world.

With a few more warmer weekends, we'll be able to tackle the leaves and branches leftover from the winter, and then you'll always know where to find me after work!

Last night, Twin and I tried out a new recipe - Garlic Cheese Bread - which from the name alone I'm sure you can imagine we will be cooking again. And again. And again.

Cheesy and delicious...and so bad for me that I actually relished eating the salad we had with it!


Last weekend, I met and fell in love with a cousin of sorts to the Garlic Cheese Bread - Olive Cheese Bread. Salty and cheesy and oh so yummy.

Something about this kitchen image makes me just want to go home and cook up a storm. Maybe it's just that it's cold outside and on brisk days like today, nothing is more comforting than a warm and cozy meal!

Although there's certainly a lot more counter space in this kitchen than in mine...
