and we laughed...

I bought this book yesterday, and it has already proved itself to be worth every penny of my $12.99. (It probably was worth it before I paid for it, since I stood in Borders laughing out loud by myself for about five minutes, scaring other patrons away from the cooking table, but that's another story...)

Do you remember when I blogged about this crazy funny blog a while back? Well, let me tell you, the book is even better! The cakes are hysterical, but her snarky commentary totally takes it over the top.

Last night a few of our favorite ladies came over for a relaxed dinner night (eggplant parm, yum!) and we spent pretty much the entire night laughing hysterically at this book. And the best part was that whenever someone new showed up, we would all look through it again and still find it funny.

Here are a few recent cakes off her blog, just to give you an idea of what we were giggling at:

(When decorators get very literal...)

(Misspellings just make a cake, don't they?)

(Poor Big Bird...it's not his fault)

Go buy the book, people - it would make a great Christmas present that will definitely have everyone laughing around the tree. (Or you could just keep it, like I'm going to do!)

Happy weekend!

some funny for your monday!

I'm not sure if you've seen this blog yet or not, but since I keep finding myself back there snickering at the photos, I figured it was time for me to share.

The title says it all - Cake Wrecks. Wrecks of cakes, supposedly all professional made, which I find both terrifying and disturbing.

Take for instance this lovely dog at the top. He was supposed to be for the first day of school - you know the funny saying about the dog eating your homework? Well, I'm just hoping that's all he eats...

Or how about these stunners? Yes, they are wedding cakes, and I'm pretty sure people requested them. At least requested the general theme. Scary, no?

Although I'm not really sure that if they had been better executed the end product would have looked too much better...

What about our favorite dead celebrity? Just when you thought we were done with seeing him on every newscast or magazine cover, he pops up on a cake.

Oh the nerve...

These fall into the category of just bad. The top one was intended to be a wedding cake, although I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to have been there when the bride saw this for the first time. It had to have been ugly...just like the cake.

And this green monstrosity - I'm pretty sure words fail me. And I like green, folks.

I feel we should close today with this wonderful creation.

This is a cupcake cake - and while I'm not sure why it ever happened, I'm posting it so that my favorite cupcake creating ladies always remember what cupcakes could turn into.

Go forth and enjoy your Monday. But watch out for bad cakes, because apparently they're everywhere!

oh the good life...

Saturday was the culmination of a rediculously busy week, but unlike the rest of the week, I got to choose how to overschedule myself. (yay!)

The day started off some cuddling and playing with two of my favorite dogs (who Twin and I were staying with overnight) and who I clearly forgot to take pictures of. Oops. Shockingly enough, things like this happen before one's first cup of coffee.

Then it was off to breakfast at one of the best places in town with some of the best ladies I know. We successfully overwhelmed our waitress with how much food four girls can eat, and did lots of laughing. I was way to busy eating to take pictures, oops again. I'm not really sorry - the pancakes were totally worth it. :)

Then, Twin and I spent a lovely couple of hours chilling with another dog - the fabulous Ms. O. She's probably the biggest dog I know, but also one of the coolest.

We did a little walk around their very cool neighborhood, and then just sat in this amazing backyard and enjoyed the day. It was like being in a hidden oasis in the middle of the city, and I LOVED every second of it.

I did mostly this...

...while Twin played with the camera, taking some pretty shots of the gardens. These colors just make my heart sing!

Finally it was off to Harry Potter night - a girl's night extravaganza of food and fictional characters! Here's the whole group, all sugared up:

And our lovely hostess with the mostess (isn't she stylish?!)

And what HP night would be complete without a cake version of the Sorting Hat?! (Seriously, I have the MOST creative and talented friends...I dare you to challenge me on this.)

It was a perfect and crazy end to a busy week. I'm so blessed to have these ladies in my life!

Oh, and kindly ignore my out of control smile...I think this was taken immediately prior to cake consumption, and I might have been a little too excited...
